Tenant empowerment is about giving you the ability to be heard and have a say in the services we provide and the decisions we make about your housing.
Hillingdon Homes has teamed up with Hillingdon Council and five housing providers to look at how we can empower tenants in the borough.
We want your help to agree one set of standards for Hillingdon's council tenants and for housing association tenants so that we can make sure that you all have the same opportunities to get involved with how your housing is managed.
The first combined tenants' meeting was held on 15 December 2009. It was well attended by 31 tenants from all six landlords and from very different lifestyles - all of whom want to continue to have their say.
We had an informal chat about what matters to tenants and focused on:
- What your priorities are for getting involved and what you expect from us
- How to make it as easy as possible to have your say
- What's in it for you e.g. meeting new people, learning new skills, improving services
We agreed that residents can become involved in a range of ways including:
- Helping to decide what standards should be set, along with tenants of other landlords
- Being trained to check the quality of our services e.g. through mystery shopping
- Joining a combined neighbourhood inspection group with other landlords in the area
Whatever your circumstances, we want to make it easy to have your say. You can take part in these activities through telephone conversations, by email, by visiting our offices, or in some cases by us coming to your home or neighbourhood - whatever is best for you.
We have a meeting for tenants aged between 16 and 25 at 6pm on 17th February 2010 and follow up meetings for everyone at either 3pm to 5pm or 6pm to 8pm on 25th February 2010 - both at Uxbridge Civic Centre.
If you are a tenant or leaseholder of one of these six landlords, you live in Hillingdon and would like to get involved please contact Paul Kent on 01895 277446 or email Pkent@hillingdon.gov.uk
