Peter Kemp

Councillor Peter Kemp : Council Nominated DirectorUp Up and Away with Squadron Leader Peter Kemp!

Peter is one of five Council Representatives nominate to the Hillingdon Homes' Board. Peter served 12 years with the RAF Regiment, holding the rank of Squadron Leader. On leaving the RAF he ran his own business as a Garage proprietor down in Devon. Peter then returned to university and gained a Bachelor of Divinity degree and was ordained in 1985, serving his Ministry in Plymouth and Bristol, latterly lecturing in Theology at Bristol University.

Nearly 20 years ago, Peter suffered a heart attack and three months later, a stroke and during his recovery he got involved with the local wheelchair user group. He is now Chief Executive officer of that group and has served the group for 10 years.

A passionate believer in user involvement, he works hard with Health, Social Services and Housing at local and national level, trying to make a difference in disabled people's lives. He campaigns for proper prescribed provision of equipment for disabled peoples' home care and comments that "If disabled people are able to have the right equipment at the right time, they can then gain confidence in managing their disability and contribute in our society in a meaningful way."
