David Routledge MBE

Cllr David Routledge : Hillingdon Homes BoardLiving and working in Hillingdon all his life, David has an in-depth understanding of the local communities in the borough. Working during the day, and studying in the evening, he qualified as a chartered auctioneer and estate agent going onto became Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors in 1971. David therefore brings a sound technical knowledge of homes and estates to his role on the Board.

Retired since 2002, David now focuses on using his wealth of skills and experience to contribute to the community. He honed his charity and fund raising skills as a stalwart member of the Rotary Club. Always a strong advocate for community cohesion, David is Chair of "Churches Together" in Uxbridge, a key supporter of local interfaith groups and regularly rolls up his sleeves for the "Lonely at Christmas" initiative, organising meals on Christmas Day for those on their own.

David holds an MBE from the Queen, awarded in 1997 for his work in the community in the borough and was Mayor of Hillingdon in 2006/7. He has a wide range of interests including local history and conservation, is a life member of the Imperial War Museum, and a culture vulture, enjoying the theatre, ballet, cinema and art exhibitions.

David is married to Janet and has two children and five grandchildren which keeps him busy. However he resolved to get more involved with housing because "I enjoy talking and listening to people. My voluntary work with those involved with drugs shows how good quality housing is the cornerstone of turning chaotic lives into ones of stability – as a Board Director of Hillingdon Homes I feel this is the best way I can contribute to making this happen."
